Home territory for this, presenting the road tested material I have used at some England Athletic network Flying Coach sessions, this time with a Serp-centric slant. There are always two major worries at these. Firstly that the IT will actually be made to work A – at all and B – in readiness to start at the appointed time. Always harder than it should be. Secondly that the diverse levels of running covered by the attendees will all feel that the level it is pitched it is relevant to them. Feedback was all very positive on this and it was handy to have current the Welsh Men’s Marathon Champion on hand to illustrate some points. My rationale is that a 4.00 marathoner should be able to gain some very useful ideas in principle from the sort of things that work for a sub 2.30 type, whereas if a 2.30 runner gives up an evening to consider marathon specifics they might feel that a focus on how best to nip under 4 hours is selling them a bit short. Oh, the third worry is that the marathon focus gets hijacked by hard core triathletes and ultra runners though I have a vaguely canny intro to try and head this off at the outset. And it nearly worked last night.
