February 22 - National Cross Country

A super day on Saturday with the National Cross Country Championships taking place at Parliament Hill, Hampstead, one of the sport’s ‘spiritual homes’. The best runners from all age groups from Under 13s to seniors ploughed through hills and mud on a crisp sunny day. Serpentine highlight of the day was the senior men’s team placing 6th, within sniffing distance of a team medal and missing two or three of the club’s quickest guys. This is the highest place that a ‘new breed ‘ club (ie not one of the long established athletics clubs) has ever placed in this race. The depth in this race is very strong, with many 31 minute 10k runners not getting into the Top 100 finishers
